Call for Submissions: Uncensored Web Poster Exhibition
As part of our second annual Iran Cyber Dialogue conference to be held on April 1, 2014, at the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto, ASL19 and Psiphon invite all graphic designers, and artists worldwide to respond to the subject of Internet censorship and submit a poster.
As a global issue, censorship is often considered to hinder freedom of speech, thought, and exchange of information. “Uncensored Web” poster competition invites graphic designers and artist worldwide to imagine the Internet without censorship, where national boundaries do not limit access to information. Where “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers” (Article 19 UDHR).

POSTER COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY
Projects must have been created, conceived or produced between March 30, 2012 – March 30, 2014.
A self-explanatory, one-page PDF version of the poster in vertical orientation. Posters should be 20in x 30in in size. Winning posters will be printed and exhibited at the conference. Name the PDF file FirstName_LastInitial_UW2014
A 150 word abstract about the electronic poster explaining its technical or research topic, including an explanation of how the poster succeeds in communicating the message visually. Name the file FirstName_LastInitial_Abstract_UW2014

The competition committee, comprising both academics and practitioners, will evaluate the content and design of all posters. The self-explanatory posters must visually illustrate and briefly explain technical projects or research studies responding to the theme of competition.
The competition committee will notify the winners by March 25, 2014. First, second, and third place winners will be awarded cash prizes from ASL19 and Psiphon. All winning posters will get honourable mentions, and will be printed and exhibited during the conference.
First place award: $1000 CAD
Second place: $300 CAD
Third place: $100 CAD
- The project effectively communicates the imaginary world of ‘UNCENSORED WEB’.
- The project demonstrates originality and creativity through advanced, unusual or clever solutions, originality of components and/or creative use of resources.
- The project demonstrates good design, through the layout and use of space, typography, clever synergies of visual elements, artistic integration, etc.
