August in #Iran’s Social Media – Trending stories on Facebook
Last month, the Fields Medal for Mathematics was awarded to a woman for the first time. Maryam Mirzakhani’s Medal also marks the first time an Iranian has been awarded this prestigious award. In other news about important Iranian woman, Simin Behbahani, the outspoken poet, known as the Lioness of Iran passed away and the news of this loss soon reached Meidoon. Political news from Iran and the World were reigning on Meidoon. Much of this news was of the situation in Iraq and the fighting between Gaza and Israel.
This month, Meidoon saw a sudden drop in Sports news being shared by social media users. This is most likely due to ending of the volleyball and basketball leagues. However, with the Iranian National Soccer league and contract negotiations with Carlos Queiroz underway, we might see a rise soon.
News of the Minister Of Communications being threatened with impeachment for increasing Internet bandwidth and implementing 3G networks, along with an Ayatollah’s fatwa about the incompatibility of high speed Internet and Islam will likely make some noise on Meidoon in the next coming weeks. Also, the news of ISIS will likely, and unfortunately continue.
