Company Description

ASL19 is a technology and exiled media organization focused on countering digital authoritarianism and advancing digital rights worldwide. Named after Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the organization has spent over a decade collaborating with civil society groups, social movements, and exiled media in highly restrictive environments. Its services have enabled millions of people in countries such as Iran, China, and Russia to access uncensored information and strengthen media literacy. ASL19’s work is guided by an Information Resilience Framework that emphasizes free access to information, information integrity, community capacity building, and research-informed understanding of local realities.

Role Description:

We are recruiting a Digital Designer to strengthen our brand visuals, design clean web and app interfaces, and create compelling content across all our digital channels. In this role, you will seamlessly blend graphic design, branding, and layout design into clear, cohesive user experiences. You’ll combine strong visual storytelling with a practical understanding of how modern web and mobile products operate in the real world. Reporting to the Product Manager, you’ll work alongside our Product, Outreach, and Marketing teams to bring digital tools and campaigns to life.

Our ideal candidate is a tech savvy, detail-oriented, an effective communicator and a stellar digital designer, preferably with experience in digital media, branding, and crafting intuitive digital experiences. We are looking for a passionate, self-driven and positive individual with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

As our projects incorporate high user security and privacy protections, we require the successful candidate to understand user privacy and discretion, and can hold themselves to high standards of confidentiality and integrity. Our team is highly collaborative, and we will do our best to support your work and provide room for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Bring fresh creative concepts and original ideas to design compelling visual assets including logos, marketing graphics, brand materials, and layout elements using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator), Canva, Figma, and other content creation apps or platforms as needed.
  • Drive visual storytelling through dynamic motion graphics and video editing, using tools like Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, or equivalent software to turn static marketing ideas into bold visual animations.
  • Lead the overall visual brand identity, collaborating directly with the Product Manager and marketing team to evolve existing brand guidelines and maintain a sharp, cohesive aesthetic tailored to target audiences.
  • Own projects from brief to final delivery, translating project needs, catching missing details early, and proposing strong visual solutions that move work forward.
  • Stay ahead of digital design trends and platform standards, continually bringing modern visual techniques, design tools, and best practices to keep the brand relevant.
  • Ensure technical precision and smooth hand-offs, producing optimized digital assets (correct formats, compression) ready for development and live deployment across web and social platforms.
  • Use creative problem-solving to design compelling digital artwork, turning briefs into high-quality visual concepts and polished page layouts using Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator).

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, Digital Design, Graphic Design, Interactive Media, or a related field.
  • A portfolio showcasing brand systems, visual storytelling, and exceptional graphic design talent across original creative concepts, digital marketing materials, and digital layouts.
  • +3 years of hands-on design experience in a fast-paced environment, collaborating closely with marketing and product teams to translate brand strategy into high-impact visual design, motion graphics, social content, and interface layouts with end-to-end ownership.
  • Proven creative and graphic design craftsmanship with deep mastery of visual hierarchy, layout, typography, color theory, and art direction across all digital and brand touchpoints.
  • Motion graphics and video editing skills focused on creating dynamic animations and short-form video edits for social media channels, digital ads, and marketing campaigns.
  • Proficiency across core design tools including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere Pro), Figma, and flexible modern platforms like Canva.
  • Solid knowledge of digital design principles with a demonstrated capability in building engaging, brand-centered visual mockups, digital graphics, and responsive web layouts.

It will be a big plus if you have…

  • Experience in creating visuals and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate user research, rapid prototyping, and design exploration
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and Java Script
  • Experience with user testing in high-censorship or hostile environments
  • Experience in creating design systems
  • Proficiency in Persian
  • Experience designing for right-to-left (RTL) scripts
